Howzat? We get our whites on.

In one of the longest running rivalries in sport, Realise and Standard Life Investments took to the crease last Thursday for the 5th Annual Realise – Standard Life Investments cricket match. After last year’s dramatic final ball victory, the Realise team knew Standard Life Investments would be motivated to win back the trophy they had won 3 times previously.

A relentless bowling attacking lead by Julian Walker and Zoe Stuart (2 wickets each) tore through the inexperienced Realise batting order. Although some hope was offered by the seasoned veteran Greg Moss (49 not out), ultimately the skill of the opposition fielders – aided by our own Business Development Director Nathan’s magnificent reaction catch whilst fielding for the opposition – and a lack of experience from the team meant Realise offered up the paltry score of 75 all out.

Any hope Standard Life Investments would buckle under the pressure of chasing that total and some light-hearted sledging proved misplaced as Richard Jamieson, Chris Simmers, Robert Doak and Damian Purcell quickly demonstrated their skill with the bat.

There were some highlights for the Realise team with Nathan again proving his ball handling skills with another magnificent catch and Jenny Kelloe pulling off the catch of the night. Diving down to her right she plucked out a boundary bound ball to help put a little pressure on the Standard Life Investments team.

Ultimately however the opposition made light work of running down their target and quickly achieved their goal.

With victory determined both teams set about finishing off the remaining pizza and beer in the late evening sun before heading off to the pub to set about plans for next year’s re-match.
