Rapidly-growing digital agency Realise (that's us) announces a key strategic hire for the New Year – Justin Small takes up the newly created post of Head of Strategy & UX this week. Former Head of Digital Strategy at Detica - a top 5 NMA digital agency and the UK’s number one design and build agency - Justin is a seasoned digital strategist for blue-chip clients with a background in service design, UX, business and psychology. He is a major addition to Realise and joins the agency’s London team based in Farringdon. The agency head count is now over 100 across London and Edinburgh.
Justin’s appointment strengthens and expands Realise’s existing business unit of UX and strategy practitioners already doing great work for clients, including Lloyds Banking Group, Tottenham Hotspur FC, BBC Worldwide, Channel4 and global manufacturer of forklift trucks, NACCO (NHMG).
Fiona Proudler, Managing Director of the agency, says: “Key to the success of Realise as an agency over the past five years has been in the hiring of the best calibre staff around and in this respect Justin perfectly adds to the Realise family – a digital expert with a solid track record in delivering digital transformation for blue chip clients.”
Having worked on brands such as PlayStation, Bupa, Transport for London, Visa and Vodafone, Justin sees this move as a logical next step in continuing at the forefront of innovation. The plan is to build an unrivalled Strategy and UX practice in the UK - and help Realise become the digital power house of choice for large organisations, well known brands and businesses committed to digital as a channel for change.
Justin Small adds: “The Realise team have a disciplined approach to driving the business forward and apply themselves with real determination. That kind of energy and commitment is infectious – I had to be part of it.
“Digital transformation, analytics and digital brand strategy are the three key areas in which all digital/creative agencies need to build practice expertise if they want to compete in the marketplace in future. Realise are already ahead of the game with their technology heritage and award-winning creative teams.”
His recent digital transformation work for Sony PlayStation and Bupa in particular is evidence of his skills. For PlayStation, Justin created the Global Experience Strategy and ran a UX team of 20 from Discovery to Front-End Build. For Bupa, he created the Experience Strategy and ran the initial stages (Discovery & Define) of the project to kick-start and define the complete redesign of this £1.5 billion UK business.
Justin is an experienced creative strategist, working in the digital domain for the last 15 years. He spent the last three years at Detica, and was previously Design Director at Sumac Digital, and Creative Director at Pleased. Prior to this, he worked at British Telecom as Service Designer.
