Web Developer wanted

We are looking for a flexible and enthusiastic Web Developer to join an established development team in our Edinburgh HQ.

The successful candidate will be a proven problem solver who relishes the challenge of developing solutions using the most appropriate technology available.

This role covers all aspects of web development from conception, planning, building, testing through to implementation and support.

Candidates will ideally have 2-3 years solid commercial development experience though we would make exceptions for the right candidate. Experience of leading solution development teams would be an advantage.

Desktop/server/network support engineer wanted

Realise have a vacancy for a desktop/server/network support engineer. The ideal candidate should have;

Experience and\or be proficient in the following:

  • Windows XP
  • Windows server 2000/2003
  • Active Directory
  • IIS5, IIs6 and Apache web servers
  • Microsoft Exchange 2003
  • Linux operating systems
  • VPN technologies (Windows 2003 L2TP/Linux based openvpn and pptp)
  • Blackberry Enterprise Server
  • Network troubleshooting under linux, for example tcpdump, routing, subnetting
  • PC & server hardware

Exposure to the following would also be of value:

  • VMWare (vCentre, vSphere)
  • Backups, specifically Arcserv 11.5
  • Firewalls
  • Cisco
  • Sotware licensing (particularly Microsoft)
  • Mac experience

Amongst the duties of the position will be:

  • installing and configuring computer hardware operating systems and applications;
  • monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks;
  • talking staff/clients through a series of actions, either face to face or over the telephone;
  • troubleshooting system and network problems and diagnosing and solving hardware/software faults;
  • replacing parts as required;
  • providing support, including procedural documentation;
  • liaising with suppliers and ordering as necessary

The ideal candidate should have at least 2 to 3 years experience in a similar, perhaps, smaller role and be able to work as part of a team and work using their own initiative.

Vacancy – Experienced ASP.Net Web Developer

We are currently looking for an experienced ASP.NET Web Developer to work on a variety of exciting web projects managed by the Realise Digital division.

In this role you will report to the Technical Delivery Manager, but also work closely with the rest of the team including other developers and designers, and the wider Realise business.

You will be:

  • A strong technician, with good written and verbal communications, with a solid understanding of how to apply pragmatic software engineering practices to the production of high quality, robust web sites.
  • Expected to provide assistance and guidance to colleagues in any aspect of software design, creation, testing and documentation.
  • Capable of taking account of new information or changed circumstances in a fast moving project environment, and acting accordingly.

Responsibilities will include: -

  • Scoping, estimating, design, implementation and maintenance of .NET-based websites and applications
  • Identifying and researching candidate solutions, particularly CMS, for client requirements, and communicating clearly with the team and clients regarding the proposed solution.
  • Mentoring a small team of web developers in these skills.

You will have 3+ years strong commercial experience in ASP.NET, and the following skills are essential to the role:-

  • ASP.Net
  • C# or VB.Net
  • XML / XSLT
  • HTML / CSS / JavaScript
  • Experience of at least one major JavaScript framework (e.g. JQuery)
  • SQL Server
  • Version Control (SVN / VSS)
  • Visual Studio (2005 +)

In addition, the following qualities are desirable: -

  • Website management and configuration with IIS
  • Continuous Integration and similar development practices.
  • MySQL
  • Commercial or Open Source Content Management Systems (especially Ektron CMS400.Net)
  • A digital agency background

You will need to have strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills. A clear and concise articulator of ideas, you’ll be persuasive and credible in front of clients, or prospective clients, at all levels.

Although we work in a team culture, you need to be comfortable managing your own time and workload autonomously.

What is critical is that you have a real passion for the web and can bring focus and enthusiasm to the role.

Who's down with APB?

Realise recently built a new teaser website for APB, the new massively multiplayer shooter being launched by Dundee-based games developer Realtime Worlds later this year.

A number of Realise staffers are currently getting shot repeatedly in the beta for the game and can contest that it's as good as the new site makes it look. All of the videos on the site are directly from the gameplay – and there's some great music in there too.

Student Marketer of the Year takes up placement at Realise

Iain who graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a degree in Marketing with Media will shadow Realise's Creative Director Don Smith throughout July.

Cairn Energy website goes live

A FTSE 100 company, Cairn Energy have pioneered Scottish oil and gas discoveries around the world for the past 20 years. Realise recently delivered their completely revamped website, utilising Cairn's own catalogue of stunning photography which is integral to the design. The site uses Flash to show details of Cairn's global operations as well as its history, integrates with emailing and SMS systems for Cairn to keep in touch with their shareholders, and has expansive downloads, video and image library sections.

Invensys Controls Europe website goes live

Don Smith joins Realise and jumps into digital

A multi-award winning above-the-line advertising creative has become the first senior figure in his field to take the leap into digital.

Don Smith, formerly of The Union, has joined Scotland's leading web design agency Realise as its Creative Director, bringing the ethos and the thinking behind some of the UK's leading ad campaigns to web design and digital marketing.

Atmos Consulting Site Redesign

Realise recently launched the first stage of Atmos Consulting's new web presence. Atmos Consulting provide expert renewable energy, environment and planning support to a wide range of customers.

The first stage – a holding page put in place to coincide with a conference attended by Atmos Consulting - was designed and built by Realise, and implemented using our proprietary content management system Xento, within the space of 3 weeks.
